Ship's or Captain's Crystal Decanter is a uniquely shaped crystal container that historically was used to hold liquor on-board of a sailing ship.
The large base was designed to give the container added stability while the ship was riding the waves at sea. As a symbol of affluence, the Crystal Decanter would have been found only in the captain's quarters of the ship. The Cooper Crystal Ships Decanter features a wide base with elegant curves that extend into a long, narrow neck, topped with a stunning hand cut crystal stopper.

A lot of goods, both dry and wet, were shipped by barrel and a healthy barrel making industry developed in the Waterford area. Barrel makers or coopers as the trade was known continued their craft right up to the twentieth century. In designing the Cooper Crystal Ships Decanter, Martin Croke invokes the memory of the craftsmen and the part they played in Waterford Ireland's history.
