Nature, light and ice can be really fascinating. It was out of the love for these elements Polar was born. The collection consists of several glass sculptures reminiscent of rippling water during a moment frozen in time. Doubling as candle holders, the depths of the clear glass becomes a carrier of light, which allows the sculpture and the play of light to create a work of art that feels alive. Polar from Kosta Boda invites to combine several pieces of different sizes to create a playful group, as well as keeping a single piece as an exclusive design object in an art-loving home. Or as a unique gift, from Sweden to the Sydney Opera house for example (true story).

With characteristic craftsmanship and good design, and an ongoing commitment to avant-garde expression, Kosta Boda has become one of the leading glasshouses in the world. The company's three glassworks in the villages of Kosta, Boda and Åfors each have exciting individual stories of their own, yet stand together under the common brand name Kosta Boda.

Eight designers are currently on retainer at Kosta Boda. They work with both utilitarian and art glass. The designers are Olle Brozén, Anna Ehrner, Kjell Engman, Ulrica Hydman-Vallien, Bertil Vallien, Ludvig Lofgren, Asa Jungnelius and Göran Wärff. Glass results from a great many meetings between people, artists, crafts people and lovers of glass.

The artists of Kosta Boda have a decisive role to play in all the creative stages of the process. The cooperation between the designers and the skilled craftspeople is very close; indeed, it is essential if the designers are to transfer their intentions to the glass.
