Joe Casey– Master Rheintour Cutter
Joe lives in Waterford with his wife Deirdre. They have three children. He enjoys soccer and works in the Referee Education Department for the Football Association of Ireland, recruiting, training and developing referees to national league standards.
Joe started in the crystal industry at fifteen years of age when he commenced employment in the Waterford Crystal factory, formerly located at Kilbarry on the outskirts of the City. Joe’s apprenticeship involved rheintour cutting, which refers to the broader and flatter type of cutting that is found on the necks of decanters or on the stems and bases of traditional cut crystal centerpieces and large vases and bowls.
Having qualified as a Master Craftsman, he spent twenty years cutting before becoming a training instructor, training apprentices on how to correctly execute rheintour cutting. He then became manager of the cutting department and continued as manager for the remaining years at the Kilbarry factory.
Joe is very pleased that he can utilize his experience and skills to contribute to the creation and success of Cashs Crystal.
